Thought I would give you an update on Javier.

He is such an awesome big brother. He loves to hug, hold, kiss, drag and tease Lucy. He is very good about getting me something I need as long as it is for her.

He loves school. He has a wonderful teacher, Ms. Williams. She is very firm which is what he needs. If you give him an inch... Well, you will be sorry. She sent home a note the other day, A Happy Gram, that said how well he was participating during reading time. He was able to give several examples of rhyming words and opposites. They talk a lot about days of the week, months of the year, seasons, etc. Today he told me that January will be over in 3 days (school days I suppose) and that Spring starts March 1. Who knew? The first time he actually said March oneth, like 1th.

He loves church, especially the music. He has a good group of friends that are at church every time the doors are open. I call them church rats, Javier included. He has wonderful teachers at church who love him very much. He is learning a lot about God and Jesus and Heaven.

One of the most memorable stories to date is when Ms. Williams, his teacher from school told me that she overheard Javier ask his friend at school if he had the Holy Spirit... Of course this HAD to be the one Jewish kid in the class. There is a little girl is his class, Sophia, that he is especially fond of. She is teaching him how fickle girls can be. Every day he gives me a report. He either says, "Sophia played with me today on the playground." or "Sophia was not my friend today." Seems like there is no middle ground.

He is a wonderful, sensitive, loving and stubborn child. He does not forget anything. He will try to argue his way out of anything. We are trying to teach him what it means to obey the FIRST time. I am very good at asking nicely once. Then it can get hairy.

He has a reward system that we are trying to be consistent about. We started fresh this week. Again. He earns checks for taking out the trash, setting the table and other. Taking out the trash means carrying the bathroom bag of trash to the kitchen trash. He did it twice today. He loses checks for a wrong choice. At the end of the week we add and subtract checks. Each check represents a quarter. We will pay him Saturday and he divides the money between GIVE, SAVE and SPEND envelopes. This has given up the opportunity for us to teach him what the Bible says about tithing. He wants to save $8 to buy the Peter Pan video. There was a preview of Peter Pan on the CARS video that came out 3 years ago. I don't know if you can even buy Peter Pan on video. I guess when he has $8 we will start searching.

I have not updated this in a long time. Sorry. These are some pictures of Lucy I took tonight. She is 9 months today! She has 2 teeth on bottom and half a tooth on top. Lucy has learned several tricks. Tonight she learned to clap when I ask her to do pat a cake. She can shake her head no. She does tope (head butt). She gives kisses, but you better be ready to get licked!

We went to the mall while we were waiting for the car to get repaired in Houston (long story). What a great surprise to find this double-decker carousel!

He wanted to ride the zebra, but someone was on it.

These are from Benjamin's second birthday. Ben is our friend from church. Ben's mom, Tracy, kept Lucy 2 days a week until last week. They are great friends! The reason Javier is not around for cake pictures is because he had an accident and by the time he and Carlos got back from the car, the singing was over. I felt so bad for him. He missed half the party.

9/1 First Night in Own Bed

This is the first night Lucy slept in her own bed upstairs. She was just over 4 months old. I was trying to delay having to go upstairs in the middle of the night. That was over 2 weeks ago, and she sleeps great. We have to go upstairs more for Javier than for her!

Lazy Friday Night

Here are some pictures of what we are doing now. A whole lotta nothin. Javier had his 4 year check up today. This includes a hearing and vision check and FOUR shots! The doctor told me, in front of him, that he would get four shots. Then we had to WAIT for probably ten minutes. It seemed like ten hours. He was scared and I don't blame him. So the nurse finally came in with 4 syringes. I had to help her hold him down. My face was up by his face and I got a nice long look at his tonsils while he was screaming!! The good news is that he is not due any more shots until he is 12. Then we came home and watched 101 Dalmatians and ordered pizza.

Pre-K

Today was Javier's first day of Pre-K. He did NOT want to wear the shirt. I have learned that he does not like to perform when I want him to most.

Carlos and I went to a friend's wedding Saturday night. We were trying to get a good picture of us. I don't think we succeeded. I have a hard time smiling with my braces... And I need a haircut. Also Javier on our way to Target. He looks like such a big boy with his baseball cap on. Enjoy. Watch for back to school pictures tomorrow.

Javier and Carlos are in the playroom practicing soccer. I am in the other room blogging and I hear this: Javier points to the ceiling and says, " That means I am pointing to Jesus." Carlos says, " Jesus wants you to kick the ball."

Sea World

Friday Javier, Lucy and I went to Sea World with Alicia, Cody and Jeremy. The boys had a great time. We saw the clydesdales, Shamu, fed the sea lions, saw some alligators, played in the water part, etc. Next year we should get a season pass, there is a lot more to see!

Chocolate Milk

This is how I found Javier this morning when I got out of the shower. He had a chair in front of the refrigerator and a chair on the other side of the kitchen at his chocolate milk-making station. He had gotten the milk off the top shelf of the fridge and the mix out of the pantry. He doesn't need me anymore!

Brother/Sister Bath

Lucy and Javier took their first bath together. I had trouble getting some of Javier that weren't x-rated... He was going to help me give her a bath. He likes to pour water on her after I wash her. He was acting like he wanted to get in, and I decided one bath is better than 2... Done.

Javier's 4th Birthday

Javier turned 4 on July 8. These are pictures from his party. Four has been much harder than 3 so far. He is so hard-headed and argumentative. We must stay consistent from day to day and that is so hard to do. We try to pick our battles... I am afraid this blog is as close as I will come to actually making a scrapbook. I have a box of things I save that I would put into a scrapbook if I had one. Does that count? I don't know how my friends find the time. Some of them do 2 or 3 of everything. One for each child. I would rather spend my free time doing something else. I choose not to feel guilty over that one.

More Zoo Too

I can't figure out how to put a caption under a picture or make the text at the top of the posting, so you will have to go to the bottom. Javier loved looking at the map. As soon as he figured out we were going to the zoo, he said,"Oooh! can I hold the map?" I have lots of pictures of him looking a the map and planning our route. I love the ones in the fake stump. I thought it would be too dark but they are pretty good.

Special Day

Carlos went to the ranch early this morning, so the kids and I had a special day together. I planned a trip to the zoo and made it a surprise for Javier. He did not know where we were going until we got there. He loved it. We even rode the train. I have not been to the zoo in a couple of years, and had never ridden the train. We walked for 3 hours only to stop to feed Lucy. Here are a few pics from our adventure. Javier says his favorite is the zebras and ostriches. Ostriches!! Has loved them since we went to the safari two years ago... The grizzly bear had a sign saying that he was not feeling well, and it was evident. We stayed and talked to him for a long time.

Lucy can hit the twirley ball on her swing! This is her newest trick. Everytime I lay her down on the floor, she rolls over and gets stuck there, so I have to go turn her over every two minutes. SO... when she is in the swing she is happy for a longer period of time.

Today we will register Javier for soccer. He turned 4 in July and there is apparently a federal law that a 4 year old boy has to play SOME sport. It should be interesting. He doesn't even know what soccer is. Javier is not excited, but Carlos and I are.

Lucy and I will have lunch with Alicia today. I have had a super busy week with work, so I am excited to slow down a little bit today.
